You are most welcome
to the website of Le Colas Chavet. The place where young horses can grow up under experienced supervision and mature horses can be kept at livery for either a short or an extended period. On this 55 acres farm, quality has been consciously chosen above quantity and for that reason the number of resident horses has been limited to 20 or less.

The driving force behind this venture is Claudia Dijkstra, who lives at le Colas Chavet, so the horses are never without supervision or care. Claudia has had over 30 years of involvement with horses and has worked at middle large and large studs in Britain; Germany; France; Italy; Denmark and of course The Netherlands. In this way she got very experienced in handling stallions, mares and foals, foaling down mares, rearing and educating young stock as well as preparing horses for shows. During her years in Britain Claudia also passed her British Horse Society’s stud manager’s course.

For 15 years she was involved part time with the Arab Horse Society of the Netherlands (AVS) to check horses after importation or before exportation. Later on, once it became registration policy, she was the official “chipper”, inserting a micro chip in a horse’s neck, for the society. Claudia has written several articles for magazines on the Arab horse, its history and bloodlines, horse management, show reports and about the horse in art with a preference for 19th century artists.

After a career with a variety of employment, Claudia decided to opt for a life surrounded by horses.

The chosen spot was to be Le Colas Chavet, close to the village of Saulzais-le-Potier, the official geographic centre of France. Apart from the above mentioned 55 acres (22 hectares), the farm also includes a fish stocked pond and has a stream running through it. All fields can be seen from the farmhouse and are doubly fenced, by old hedges and by broad tape electric fence. During the summer ancient oaks provide welcome shade for the horses.
